The time we live in can be probably called the age of mobility. Mobile phones have become a part and parcel of our life, and we do not think of them as something special. Despite the differences in the design and in the operating system, most of the phones have a similar set of features, which satisfy the demands of a general user. However, some phone designers and manufacturers do succeed to make something very different. These may be just some stylish phones designed to satisfy even the most captious taste or they may have a very special functionality that may be needed for some particular groups of users. Let us see the most interesting examples.
Projector Phone. These phones have a built-in miniature laser projector that can display the phone's screen on the wall. Can be very useful for those who often need to make presentations at different locations. Currently I know of two such phones, LG Expo Projector operating on Windows Mobile 6.5 and Logic Bolt Projector Phone running Symbian OS. The later also has slots for two SIM cards and two cameras on both the front and the back panel. In fact, a lot of companies around the world are working on miniature laser projectors, so we may expect many more phones with this feature to come up on the market in the near future.
Solar Mobile Phone. Two examples are LG GD510 and Samsung E1107. They have a solar panel on the back, so that they can be charged from the sun light. Samsung E1107 Crest has also a fake call feature which can help you to escape from an unwanted conversation or a meeting.
Watch Phone. It is a watch and a phone at the same time. Some of them even have a size of a typical watch, for example Kempler and Strauss - the smallest watch phone, while some others are somewhat bigger but still can be carried on the wrist. There are even watchphones with a touchscreen and GPS, like GeoSkeeper GPS Watch Phone.
Mobile phones running Windows XP. Yes, this system, which we thing of only in connection with personal computers, can be used on smartphones too. Two examples are ViewSonic VPC08 and xpPhone. There are also some phones running the old Windows 3.11, for example Sony Ericsson G900. But who would want to use Windows 3.11 nowadays, even for a palmtop computer this system is too much outdated.
Mobile phone - photo camera. It is difficult to say what Samsung SCH-W880 is, a mobile phone with a camera or a camera with mobile phone functionality. And finally a superphone! Nexus One calls it not a smartphone but a superphone because it has a 1 GHz processor, the fastest processor available for PDAs. Owing to this fast processor, it offers some new functionality, which was not available before. Maybe the most useful feature is voice recognition, so you can create all text messages and e-mails using only your voice. This phone runs Android OS from Google, has 512 MB RAM, 512 MB ROM and supports microSD cards up to 32 GB. Among other nice features is 10 hours talking time.
